Supercell has killed one of its US game projects, and the other is MIA

Supercell, the Finnish mobile game developer, is winding down its US game development operation less than four years after announcing plans to expand in the American market. One game project has been officially cancelled—cofounded by Steve Desilets, it had been in development for three and a half years alongside Matt Mocarski before the team was disbanded.

A second US-based Supercell project is also in jeopardy after all four former Riot Games employees hired in 2022 to form its core team have departed. According to their LinkedIn profiles, these exits occurred in late 2025 and early 2026, leaving the project’s status uncertain.

Supercell US was established in February 2022 under Ryan Wener’s leadership, with two core project teams forming by December of that year. The rapid dissolution of the entire operation represents a significant retreat from the company’s US expansion ambitions and signals the end of its attempt to develop games outside its traditional mobile gaming focus.
