We’ve A Sneaky Feeling Nightdive’s Latest Remaster Will Be Awesome

Nightdive Studios has announced a remaster of Thief: The Dark Project, the influential 1998 stealth game originally developed by Looking Glass Studios. The remaster will release across multiple platforms during winter, bringing the classic first-person stealth game to PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.

The remaster includes all content from the original game along with the additional missions, levels, and updates from Thief Gold, the enhanced 1999 re-release. Nightdive has improved the game’s visuals with updated textures, models, animations, and cutscenes. The remaster also incorporates quality-of-life improvements to enhance gameplay.

Thief: The Dark Project is recognized as a landmark title in game design, pioneering innovative first-person stealth mechanics that made intelligent use of light and sound to create engaging level design. The game has been highly influential on the stealth genre and immersive simulation games that followed, with titles like Dishonored owing a debt to its design philosophy.

Players on Nintendo Switch will receive a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version, ensuring continuity across Nintendo’s generational transition. While an exact release date has not been announced, the studio has confirmed a winter release window for the remaster.

Nightdive Studios, owned by Atari, specializes in remastering games from the late 1990s and early 2000s and has built a reputation for respectfully updating classic games while preserving their original character and design intent.
