Vivarium is a life sim with an art style strongly influenced by Studio Ghibli films

Studio Meadowflower has announced Vivarium, an upcoming cozy life-sim adventure set to release on Xbox and PC next year. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Vivarium features a hand-illustrated art style heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli films and timeless anime classics. Players control Jenny, a cheerful 11-year-old living in a small town that is revealed to be located inside a terrarium. The game aims to provide respite from the pressures of modern life through its relaxing gameplay experience.

The title is being published by Serenity Forge and developed in collaboration with Crunchyroll and Shochiku Games, bringing together expertise in animation and gaming. This partnership reflects growing interest in anime-influenced game development and the expanding crossover appeal between gaming and anime audiences.

Vivarium represents an indie studio’s entry into the cozy life-sim genre, which has gained significant popularity in recent years. With its distinctive visual aesthetic rooted in anime tradition and focus on a laid-back gameplay experience, the title aims to appeal to players seeking alternatives to high-pressure gaming.
