Death Stranding Movie’s Script Is “Almost Done,” Director Says

The Death Stranding movie adaptation is progressing with director Michael Sarnoski nearing completion of the screenplay. The film is being produced by A24 and Hideo Kojima, with Sarnoski serving as both director and screenwriter.

According to Sarnoski, the script is “almost done,” and Kojima has been actively involved in the creative process, reviewing drafts and providing revision notes. However, specific details about Kojima’s requested changes remain undisclosed.

Sarnoski emphasized that Kojima has been supportive of his creative approach to the adaptation, allowing him freedom to develop original characters and expand the Death Stranding universe while maintaining fidelity to the source material. “Kojima has been really generous in letting me play in his world but letting me tell a story with my own characters and my own sort of corner of this world, but keeping it honest to the game and doing something that fans will really like,” Sarnoski said.

The filmmaker’s comments suggest a collaborative balance between original storytelling and respect for Kojima Productions’ vision. With the script nearing completion, the Death Stranding movie appears to be advancing toward the next development phases.
