Donkey Kong Banaza’s Mario-Inspired Update Has The Strangest Limitation Imaginable
Nintendo announced limited-time Donkey Kong content during its June 2026 Direct presentation, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Bananza’s Emerald Rush DLC will receive new cosmetic content featuring Mario and Luigi characters. Players can equip Donkey Kong with Mario’s iconic red hat and blue overalls, while Pauline can dress as Luigi with a green hat and mustache. However, these costumes will only be available for a limited time.
Additionally, Nintendo is launching DK Challenge, a free challenge-based app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Available starting June 10 through September 1, DK Challenge combines challenges from across the Donkey Kong series, spanning from classic Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2 to the newer Donkey Kong Bananza. The challenges range in difficulty from beginner to advanced, with players earning digital challenge cards as rewards.
DK Challenge can be accessed directly from the Nintendo Switch Online home page, located at the bottom of the Switch main menu. The app functions similarly to Super Mario Maker by blending different eras and styles of Donkey Kong games into a single experience.
