PREVIEW: 1047’s EMPULSE Will Learn From Splitgate’s Mistakes

1047 Games has unveiled EMPULSE, a new first-person shooter designed to learn from the missteps of its previous title, Splitgate. The studio is aiming to create a shooter that stands out in a competitive market after Splitgate, a free-to-play live-service title, failed to gain traction with players despite multiple opportunities to succeed.

EMPULSE features high-octane combat mechanics and fluid verticality, building on the foundation 1047 Games established with Splitgate while attempting to innovate significantly beyond it. The studio has emphasized that EMPULSE is not simply “Splitgate 3,” indicating a deliberate effort to differentiate the new title and avoid repeating the critical mistakes that led to Splitgate’s decline.

Journalist hands-on impressions came from Summer Game Fest’s Play Days event, where 1047 Games discussed their approach to the new shooter and how they plan to address issues that plagued their previous live-service entry.
