Fallout 76 is Finally Getting Companions That Join You in the Wasteland
Fallout 76, Bethesda Game Studios’ post-apocalyptic MMORPG, is celebrating its eighth anniversary this year while continuing to evolve with new features and gameplay mechanics. The game has been the subject of constant innovation since its launch, with the development team regularly introducing new content and systems for players to explore.
For years, the Fallout 76 community has requested companion mechanics that would allow players to have AI-controlled allies join them in the open wasteland, or at minimum, roaming pet features that are standard in other MMOs. Bethesda has finally answered these long-standing requests with the upcoming introduction of “CAMPanions” — a new companion system that brings pets from player camps into the wilderness.
These CAMPanions will be able to venture out into the wasteland alongside players during their adventures. Beyond simply providing companionship, the feature will include additional capabilities designed to enhance the companions’ functionality and usefulness in gameplay. While specific details about these enhanced features remain limited, the addition addresses a significant gap that players have highlighted repeatedly since the game’s launch.
This development represents Bethesda’s ongoing commitment to keeping Fallout 76 fresh and engaging as a live-service title. The addition of companions is expected to provide players with new gameplay experiences and create more dynamic interactions within the post-apocalyptic world, continuing the studio’s tradition of listening to community feedback.
