Everything we know about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the Remake trilogy’s last act
Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final instalment of its Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The game was announced at Summer Game Fest and will serve as the conclusion to the remake saga that began with Remake and continued through Rebirth.
According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will maintain a linear story structure despite the expansive nature of its predecessors. While both Remake and Rebirth featured some degree of player choice through side quests and dialogue options, neither game allowed players to alter the core plot. This approach will continue in Revelation, with a single definitive ending that cannot be changed regardless of player decisions.
However, the game won’t be completely devoid of player agency. Hamaguchi confirmed that players will be able to make certain choices that affect specific story beats, particularly as the party approaches the final battle. These choices will influence how the narrative unfolds without fundamentally changing its destination.
The iconic Gold Saucer location from the original Final Fantasy 7 will make a return appearance in Revelation. The amusement park will be redesigned for this instalment and will feature its own contained side story, though it won’t play a major role in the central narrative. This marks the continuation of bringing beloved locations and elements from the original game into the remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation continues the trilogy’s exploration of time and destiny that began in Remake and intensified in Rebirth. With the announcement of a singular narrative path and ending, Square Enix appears committed to delivering a definitive conclusion to its ambitious remake project.
