4 years later, we finally got another look at Kingdom Hearts 4 (and it’s coming to Switch 2 at launch)

Kingdom Hearts 4 has finally resurfaced after four years of silence since its 2022 announcement. Square Enix revealed new gameplay footage during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, offering eager fans their first substantial look at the highly anticipated action-RPG sequel.

The new trailer showcases Quadratum, a mysterious Tokyo-inspired city environment where protagonist Sora encounters new characters and summons. The footage demonstrates the series’ trademark blend of action-based combat and RPG mechanics, maintaining the visual style of previous entries while featuring familiar and new faces including Donald, Goofy, and Strelitzia.

Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 at the console’s release, alongside simultaneous availability on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both Steam and Epic Games Store. This multiplatform approach aligns with the publisher’s recent strategy across major platforms.

While the new footage has satisfied fans’ long wait for information, Square Enix provided no release window, suggesting development remains in progress. The reveal also coincided with an announcement that the first three mainline Kingdom Hearts games will be bundled for Switch 2, further supporting the series’ presence on the upcoming console.
