Donald Duck has five fingers in official art for Kingdom Hearts Collection, and that is definitely not right
Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts Collection (1-3) during Nintendo Direct, alongside Kingdom Hearts 4’s upcoming release on Nintendo Switch 2. Despite the excitement surrounding the franchise’s expansion and platform availability, the announcement drew immediate criticism from fans who spotted concerning anomalies in the official promotional artwork.
The most glaring issue involves Donald Duck’s hands in the promotional illustration—the character displays an impossible anatomical configuration with four fingers on one hand and five on the other. This inconsistency is particularly noticeable given that Disney’s iconic character traditionally features four fingers in official designs. Beyond Donald’s hands, fans identified additional irregularities including chains arranged in physically impossible configurations, a clock tower with distorted drooping hands, and unusual proportions on Sora’s feet and other appendages.
These visual inconsistencies are characteristic hallmarks of AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork, where hands, fingers, and complex objects frequently appear malformed or anatomically implausible. Kingdom Hearts fans raised their concerns on social media platforms including Bluesky, directly questioning whether Square Enix had utilized AI tools during the artwork’s creation or in post-production retouching. The discovery arrives amid an observable industry trend of AI-generated or AI-assisted promotional materials appearing in gaming announcements, particularly during major seasonal showcase events.
