Stunning PS Vita Action RPG Muramasa Is Being Reborn on PS5 Next Year
Vanillaware’s acclaimed action RPG Muramasa is being reimagined for PlayStation 5 as Muramasa: Revenant Blades, launching in early 2027. This is a substantial reworking of the original game rather than a simple remaster, featuring significant enhancements and additions.
The new version includes all six playable characters from the PS Vita port, including four characters that were originally available as DLC scenarios. A notable change is that players can now access each character’s story from the start, rather than needing to unlock them progressively. This gives players more immediate choice in how they approach the game.
The combat and weapon systems have been redesigned and rebalanced, which will impact both gameplay flow and overall balance. Additionally, the entire game has been upgraded to 4K resolution, bringing the stunning hand-drawn visuals that Vanillaware is known for to modern display standards.
Muramasa originally launched on Nintendo Wii before being ported to PS Vita, building a dedicated fanbase among action RPG enthusiasts. This PS5 remake represents the franchise’s return to prominence after several years away from major releases.
