Overwatch’s New Hero Is A Cyberpunk Demon

Blizzard Entertainment has officially revealed Shion, the 52nd hero coming to Overwatch in season 3, launching June 16. The character is a dual-wielding damage-class combatant with a cyberpunk aesthetic inspired by games like Cyberpunk 2077.

Shion is positioned as a leader of the Hashimoto Clan, Overwatch’s reimagining of yakuza-style criminal organizations and rivals to the Shimada clan. The clan has strong connections to the terrorist organization Talon and is responsible for assassinating Sojiro Shimada, father to Hanzo and Genji—setting up intriguing story dynamics between these characters. She wears a traditional oni mask characteristic of other Hashimoto clan members.

Gameplay-wise, Shion dual wields pistols and carries a blade for close-range combat, though whether this functions as a standard melee attack or distinct ability remains unclear. She’s described as “barely human” and rides a motorcycle, suggesting significant cybernetic enhancement. A new animated story trailer titled “The End of the Line” features Shion in combat against Sojourn, introducing her character to players.

The community has already debated whether Shion is human or robotic based on her appearance, with Overwatch’s extensive story content tied to its recent soft reboot presumably providing clarification. Other characters including Kiriko and Mizuki appear in artwork for the new season and are expected to play supporting narrative roles. The reveal represents Blizzard’s continued commitment to developing the Overwatch universe through in-game characters and expanded multimedia storytelling.
