New Joy-Con Colours And A Stand-Alone Direct Are Inbound For Splatoon Raiders
Nintendo announced new details about the upcoming Splatoon Raiders, including a stand-alone Direct presentation scheduled for June 30th that will showcase additional gameplay and features. The single-player shooter is set to launch on July 23rd for Nintendo Switch 2.
Alongside the game’s release, Nintendo will introduce a new blue and yellow Joy-Con color variant, designed to complement the Splatoon Raiders branding. The company will also release a series of Raiders-themed comics on Nintendo Today leading up to launch, and host a special Splatoon Raiders Splatfest event running from July 10th to 12th.
The new Joy-Con colorway presents a refined and subtle aesthetic that many players may appreciate. However, some Splatoon fans and Joy-Con collectors have expressed disappointment with the design’s lack of creativity. Critics note that the blue and yellow color scheme feels uninspired compared to the original Switch’s playful and experimental controller designs, which were instrumental in establishing the console’s distinctive, whimsical character. The original Switch’s Joy-Con controllers featured more inventive and bold colorways that reflected the console’s overall design philosophy.
Nintendo traditionally accompanies major first-party game launches with themed accessories and hardware variants, making the new Joy-Con colors a standard marketing approach for Splatoon Raiders. Nonetheless, the design’s reception highlights differing expectations between casual players and collectors regarding the level of creativity and visual distinctiveness Nintendo brings to special editions.
