Toys For Bob Hopes The New Spyro Adventure Will Be The “First Of Many”
Spyro the Dragon is making a triumphant return to gaming after an 18-year absence. The iconic purple dragon will star in Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first mainline entry in the series since 2008’s Dawn of the Dragon. The new adventure is scheduled to launch in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Developer Toys for Bob has ambitious plans for the franchise’s future. Studio head Paul Yan expressed in an interview with GamesRadar+ that A Realm Beyond represents just the beginning, describing it as the “first of many” planned Spyro titles. Rather than simply capitalizing on nostalgia, Yan emphasized the team’s commitment to taking creative risks and pushing the series into new territory.
Yan acknowledged that this approach may feel uncomfortable as the developers move beyond the established formula, but stressed that innovation is necessary for the franchise to thrive long-term. The studio’s goal extends beyond a single nostalgic comeback—they aim for Spyro to become a sustainable, evolving franchise that delivers multiple new experiences to players over time. This suggests Toys for Bob intends to expand the character and series beyond the beloved PS1 classics, positioning Spyro: A Realm Beyond as the foundation for a renewed era of Dragon adventures.
