Star Fox free demo dropping today on Nintendo Switch 2
During today’s Nintendo Direct livestream, Nintendo announced the immediate availability of a free demo for its upcoming Star Fox remake on Nintendo Switch 2. The demo is now live on the Nintendo eShop and includes the game’s tutorial alongside Meteo, one of the early adventure stages—a compact experience that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The demo previews the full Star Fox release scheduled for June 25th. This is a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 title Star Fox 64, but it goes substantially beyond a simple visual refresh. It features updated graphics, new prologue cutscenes, significantly expanded story content, and a new online multiplayer battle mode. Early hands-on impressions indicate this is a considerably cinematic retelling with an overhauled script rather than the modest graphical upgrade seen in previous ports.
The demo showcases the remake’s modernized visuals and gameplay updates, including enhanced haptic feedback on Joy-Con controllers and optional mouse controls via the Joy-Con 2. Early previews suggest Nintendo has successfully evolved the classic rail shooter for contemporary audiences. The Star Fox remake will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, marking a significant return for the franchise to Nintendo’s latest hardware.
