Rise Of The Tomb Raider Gets Surprise Release On Switch 2 Today
Rise of the Tomb Raider is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 in a surprise release, bringing Crystal Dynamics’ acclaimed 2015 action-adventure sequel to the new console. Developed by Aspyr—the studio responsible for last year’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition port—the Switch 2 version is titled “Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration” and launches with comprehensive content.
The release includes all previously released Season Pass expansions and DLC from other platforms, featuring content such as Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, Cold Darkness Awakened, Blood Ties, Lara’s Nightmare, and both standard and cooperative Endurance Mode variants. Players also gain access to all exclusive cosmetic DLC, including 8 outfits and 7 weapons not previously available on Nintendo platforms.
Beyond the main DLC packages, the Switch 2 edition incorporates extensive bonus content: 35 Expansion Cards, an Extreme Survivor difficulty setting for hardcore players, 5 classic Lara Croft character skins representing the franchise’s history, and a special TR III Reimagined “Antarctica” outfit. This comprehensive package positions the game as a complete experience for Switch 2 owners.
The surprise release strategy mirrors the approach taken with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition last November, suggesting a successful formula for bringing the franchise to Nintendo hardware. Aspyr’s expertise in porting established titles appears to be driving an expanded Tomb Raider presence on the Switch platform.
