I Didn’t Care About The New Star Fox Until I Found Out Who’s Making It

Velan Studios, a New York-based game developer, has been revealed as the studio developing the new Star Fox game for Nintendo Switch 2. The studio announced the partnership on Bluesky, stating they have “been passionately working on this for a while” on the project.

Velan Studios was founded in 2016 by former developers from Vicarious Visions, the studio known for titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Skylanders. This marks the studio’s second collaboration with Nintendo, following their work on the toys-to-life game Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit in 2020.

The upcoming Star Fox title is being built using Velan’s proprietary engine, Viper. In recent years, Velan has developed several other titles, including the augmented reality games Hot Wheels: Rift Rally and Bounce Arcade, as well as the PlayStation horror party game Midnight Murder Club, which released earlier this year. The studio was also previously involved with the live-service game Knockout City, which was eventually canceled.

The new Star Fox game is scheduled to release this summer as one of Nintendo’s major Switch 2 titles.
