If You’ve Been Sitting On Xenoblade Chronicles, You Have No Excuse With These New Switch 2 Editions
Nintendo has announced that all three mainline Xenoblade Chronicles games will receive enhanced editions for the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement was made during the summer Nintendo Direct, bringing renewed attention to the beloved JRPG series that has been a cornerstone of the Switch library despite pushing the original hardware to its limits.
The enhanced editions will feature full 4K support when docked on compatible televisions and full HD resolution in handheld mode, with all versions running at a smooth 60 frames per second. This represents a significant visual and performance upgrade from the original Switch versions, particularly for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is noted as having struggled with resolution on the base Switch.
The release schedule spans several months: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is available digitally immediately, with a physical version launching on July 30th. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 follows on July 30th digitally and October 1st physically. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 completes the trilogy on December 3rd with simultaneous digital and physical releases. Existing owners can purchase upgrade packs for £7.99 each, currently available for pre-order on the eShop.
The Xenoblade Chronicles series holds particular significance in gaming history—the original Wii entry was nearly never localized outside Japan until fan campaigns convinced Nintendo to release it internationally. Since then, the franchise has become recognized as containing some of the best JRPGs available, featuring epic storylines set across vast semi-open world environments.
