Xenoblade Genesis announced during Nintendo Direct, coming in 2027 to the Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo announced Xenoblade Genesis during its June 2026 Nintendo Direct presentation, revealing a brand-new entry in the long-running RPG series coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Senior executive officer Yoshiaki Koizumi described the game as marking “a new beginning” for the franchise, though a specific release date within 2027 was not provided.

The reveal trailer showcased a new corner of the Xenoblade universe with a notably more whimsical fantasy aesthetic than previous entries in the series. The game features new characters and introduces the “Anima” system, a special power that permeates the game’s world. Warriors called “Vesselai” can wield Anima, and the trailer suggests players will control a warrior-in-training in what appears to be a magic school set within a vast open world—possibly inside a planet.

The trailer mixed cinematics and gameplay footage, hinting at intense anime-style action alongside the franchise’s characteristic RPG mechanics. Nintendo provided minimal additional details, simply stating that “more details will be shared in the future.”

Alongside the new title announcement, Nintendo revealed that the existing Xenoblade Chronicles library is receiving Nintendo Switch 2 versions. The original Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition became available digitally on June 10, 2026, with physical copies releasing July 30. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will follow the same schedule, launching digitally on July 30 with physical versions arriving later, allowing fans to experience the series on new hardware before Xenoblade Genesis’s 2027 launch.
