Redditor finds AMD museum piece that once belonged to ex-CEO Rory Read, stashed away in a basement

An HVAC technician discovered what appears to be a personal computer once belonging to former AMD CEO Rory Read while working in a customer’s basement. The finding was shared on the AMD subreddit and highlights how corporate memorabilia can end up in unexpected places after its active use.

The PC is housed in an Xigmatek XEN6329 Mini-ITX cube chassis, notable for being covered with handwritten signatures from colleagues. Among the inscriptions is a message reading “To Rory, All the best from Team AMD, Lisa Su,” referencing current AMD CEO Lisa Su. The signed chassis suggests the device served as a commemorative or farewell gift, likely marking a significant moment during Read’s time at the company.

Read served as AMD’s CEO from 2015 to 2019, overseeing a pivotal period of corporate restructuring and development of new processor architectures. The signed PC appears to be an artifact from that era, preserved unintentionally in storage rather than in official company archives or a formal museum setting.

This discovery raises questions about how corporate history and technology artifacts become dispersed after their useful life, and how pieces of company heritage can be accidentally lost or unexpectedly rediscovered. Rather than being formally preserved, this piece spent time forgotten in a basement before a chance encounter brought it back to light.
