New Arm tech enables the use of Unreal Engine MegaLights on mobile

Arm, the UK-based semiconductor and software design company, has announced neural graphics technology that enables the use of Unreal Engine MegaLights on mobile devices. Previously, the advanced ray-tracing capabilities of MegaLights—Unreal Engine’s powerful global illumination system—were not supported on mobile platforms, limiting the visual fidelity achievable on handheld devices.

The technology is being showcased through Neural Dawn, a mobile title developed in collaboration with UK studio Sumo Digital. The game demonstrates the capabilities of the Arm Mali GPU, which will launch later in 2026. Arm’s neural graphics technology leverages artificial neural networks to deliver what the company describes as “desktop-class” graphics quality while maintaining efficient battery life—a critical balance for mobile gaming.

This advancement represents a significant step forward in mobile gaming performance technology, potentially enabling more visually sophisticated games on smartphones and tablets without compromising the power efficiency that mobile users expect. By utilizing neural processing, Arm is allowing developers to achieve console-like visual effects on mobile hardware, which could influence the trajectory of game design for portable platforms.
