‘I’m So Happy I Didn’t Get It’: Ben Starr Auditioned for 007 First Light’s James Bond
Ben Starr, known for his voice acting work in Final Fantasy 16 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has revealed that he auditioned for the role of James Bond in the recently released game 007 First Light. The role ultimately went to actor Patrick Gibson.
Speaking at Summer Game Fest, Starr explained that his audition took place years ago while he was working on Final Fantasy 16. Despite his interest in the iconic spy role, Starr described his performance as unsuccessful, saying he “crumbled under the pressure” during the audition with IO Interactive and Eon Productions. He recalled creating a self-tape for the audition that included the famous GoldenEye scene, for which he received a callback.
Rather than expressing disappointment, Starr has expressed relief and satisfaction with how events unfolded. He stated he is “so happy” he didn’t get the part and has praised Patrick Gibson’s performance in the final game, suggesting he felt the role was beyond his capabilities at that time in his career.
