Shadow of the Colossus Director Fumito Ueda Laments Bluepoint Games Closure
Sony shut down Bluepoint Games earlier in 2026, the acclaimed remake studio responsible for the highly regarded Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes. The closure followed the studio’s inability to identify a new project after the cancellation of its God of War live service title.
Fumito Ueda, the original creator of Shadow of the Colossus and legendary developer behind The Last Guardian, expressed disappointment about the news in an interview with IGN. Having previously collaborated with Bluepoint on multiple projects—including the 2011 Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the acclaimed 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake—Ueda received no advance notice of the studio’s closure. He stated he learned of it through the same news sources as the public.
Ueda voiced regret that the partnership was ending, expressing hope that the two could have worked together again in the future. He specifically mentioned the possibility of collaborating on an ICO remake, suggesting that project could have been an opportunity for Bluepoint’s expertise in remaking classic PlayStation titles to shine once more.
