Ico and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda would like to see his old games on PC someday, too

Fumito Ueda, the acclaimed director of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, has expressed interest in bringing his classic games to PC. Ueda’s upcoming project, Gen Atlas, will mark his first PC release in 25 years of directing games following a partnership with Epic Games.

Ueda has maintained a near-total commitment to PlayStation platforms since joining Sony, despite having early credits on D and Enemy Zero—MS-DOS releases from his time working as an animator at Warp studio in the 1990s. This PlayStation exclusivity persisted through The Last Guardian’s 2016 release. The shift toward PC with Gen Atlas represents a significant departure from his established pattern.

In discussing his catalog, Ueda indicated openness to seeing Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian become available on PC platforms, suggesting potential ports or re-releases of these acclaimed titles. The statement reflects both his evolving platform strategy and acknowledgment of broader audience reach outside the PlayStation ecosystem.

Ueda’s move to develop Gen Atlas on PC with Epic Games signals a meaningful evolution in his approach to platform exclusivity after decades of dedicated PlayStation development. While details about Gen Atlas remain sparse, the partnership represents his continued ambition to pursue new creative ventures.
