The 10 best comic book reprints in MTG’s Marvel Super Heroes set
Magic: The Gathering’s Marvel Super Heroes set represents a collaboration bringing iconic Marvel Comics artwork to trading card game cards. The set features reprints of popular Magic cards rendered with borderless art from classic and contemporary Marvel stories, allowing players and collectors to own game pieces decorated with imagery from the comic books themselves.
According to coverage, the Marvel Super Heroes set builds upon Magic’s Universes Beyond program, which partners the trading card game with other intellectual properties. While previous crossovers like Marvel’s Spider-Man received mixed reception, Marvel Super Heroes is generating stronger enthusiasm among Magic fans, particularly those who are also comic book enthusiasts.
The set includes source material cards spanning Marvel’s history, from characters and stories created by legendary 1960s creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to modern acclaimed comic runs. This broad historical range aims to appeal to longtime Marvel fans while potentially introducing new players to significant stories from the franchise’s catalog.
The reprints serve a dual purpose: they provide Magic collectors with alternate-art versions of established cards while offering comic fans an opportunity to own game pieces featuring artwork from the stories they love. The set’s approach emphasizes synergy between Magic’s gameplay mechanics and Marvel’s narrative history, positioning it as a more thoughtfully executed crossover than previous Universes Beyond offerings.
