Old Persona 4 voice actor is ‘deeply grieving’ being recast in the remake: ‘Everything in life is transient… Thank you for sharing the journey’
Persona 4 Revival, the upcoming remake of the classic JRPG, is recasting voice actors from the original 2008 game. Most notably, Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced protagonist friend Yosuke Hanamura in the original, will not be returning. The recasting follows a similar approach to Persona 3 Reload, which also updated the voice cast from the 2006 original.
At least one member of the original cast has publicly responded with emotion to being recast, expressing that they are “deeply grieving” the change. In a reflective message, the voice actor acknowledged the transient nature of life and thanked fans for “sharing the journey,” suggesting an appreciation for the community connection despite disappointment about the project transition.
Persona 4 Revival showcases modernized visuals and recreated scenes from the original game, including iconic moments like the TV world introduction and character summoning sequences. The remake also appears to feature new content not present in the original, such as previously unconfirmed karaoke scenes. While Atlus and Sega have not detailed the full extent of voice cast changes, the confirmed absence of Lowenthal indicates significant alterations to the original voice work, raising discussions among fans about balancing preservation of beloved originals with fresh interpretations in remakes.
