PowerToys just made Command Palette extensions easier to install and manage

Microsoft PowerToys has released version 0.100.0, a significant update that streamlines the management and discovery of Command Palette extensions through a new Extension Gallery feature. The gallery simplifies how users find, install, and update extensions, addressing a key pain point in the utility’s ecosystem.

Beyond the Extension Gallery, the update introduces several other notable improvements. A new Shortcut Guide feature has been added, and the Dock tool now supports multi-monitor configurations, expanding its utility for users with multiple displays. Additionally, PowerDisplay has received performance enhancements, and Zoomit now allows users to overlay a webcam while recording, increasing its usefulness for content creators and presenters.

Despite adding these new capabilities, the overall application footprint has actually decreased. PowerToys’ developers upgraded the project to .NET 10, which resulted in a 15% reduction in the app’s size while simultaneously improving performance across the board. This optimization represents a significant technical achievement, delivering more features without bloating the installation.

The v0.100.0 release demonstrates Microsoft’s continued commitment to maintaining and improving PowerToys as a comprehensive toolkit for Windows users who want to enhance their productivity and system capabilities.
