Ridley Scott and Glenn Close to Receive Honorary Oscars at 2026 Governors Awards

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the recipients of honorary Oscars at the 2026 Governors Awards gala. Legendary director Ridley Scott and acclaimed actress Glenn Close will finally receive the Academy Award recognition that eluded them throughout their careers, alongside Floyd Norman, Disney’s first Black animator, who will be honored for his pioneering contributions to the animation industry.

Beyond the honorary Oscars, the Academy will present two additional major awards at the ceremony. The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, which honors outstanding achievement in film production, will be awarded to independent filmmakers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler. The duo co-founded Killer Films, a production company that has become instrumental in independent cinema, producing acclaimed works across multiple decades.

The Board of Governors will also present the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Governors Awards gala. This ceremony serves as a significant occasion for the Academy to recognize distinguished lifetime achievements and contributions to cinema beyond the categories featured in the annual Academy Awards ceremony. The recognition of these artists reflects their lasting impact on film and entertainment.
