Sony ‘Exploring New Ways’ to Deliver PS Plus Games

Sony is exploring a new staggered rollout approach for PlayStation Plus Extra content in its largest markets. Rather than simultaneously releasing all Game Catalogue additions globally, the company is testing region-specific release schedules for the US, UK, and Japan.

The June Game Catalogue update illustrates this new strategy. While some titles, including Final Fantasy 16 and Gitaroo Man, will launch globally on June 16th as scheduled, other games are being released on different dates depending on region. Sonic X Shadow Generations is available in the US and UK from June 10th and Japan from June 11th, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure arrive on June 23rd across these territories. Farming Simulator 25 and Blades of Fire complete the rollout on June 30th.

This approach represents a shift from Sony’s traditional simultaneous worldwide release model for subscription service content. By staggering releases, the company may be testing consumer preferences and engagement patterns across different markets, or optimizing content distribution and licensing agreements that vary by region.

The initiative affects PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers in some of the gaming industry’s most important markets, suggesting Sony is experimenting with new ways to manage its subscription service offerings.
