Rumour: “Patience, Wumpa Lovers” - Xbox Might Be Resurrecting Former PS1 Mascot Crash Bandicoot
According to insider reports, Xbox is developing a new Crash Bandicoot game following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The news comes from leaker No Arms and No Legs, who previously revealed details about an upcoming Spyro the Dragon revival. On social media, the insider stated that “a new Crash Bandicoot game is scheduled too, but will not be unveiled for the moment.”
The announcement marks a significant shift for the iconic character, who originated as PlayStation’s mascot during the original PlayStation era. Xbox gained ownership of Crash Bandicoot’s intellectual property through its 2023 acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which also brought developer Toys for Bob into the Xbox family. Toys for Bob previously developed Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, suggesting the studio could be involved in this new project, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
While the new Crash Bandicoot game is in development, it may be some time before an official announcement. The project follows Xbox’s broader strategy of leveraging properties acquired through the Activision deal to expand its gaming portfolio. Bringing a former PlayStation icon under Xbox’s umbrella represents a notable move in the ongoing console competition between major platforms.
