Dave the Diver Dev’s New Game Bancho the Chef Will Make ‘Extensive Use’ of PS5’s Controller
Mintrocket has announced Bancho the Chef, a prequel to the acclaimed indie hit Dave the Diver. The game was revealed during Sony’s latest State of Play presentation and will make extensive use of the PS5’s controller features, according to a new developer diary from the studio.
Bancho the Chef blends cooking simulation with adventure gameplay, taking players back 19 years before the events of Dave the Diver—when protagonist Bancho was significantly younger and still had a full head of hair. The game follows his transformative journey across various cities throughout Asia as he learns the intricate art of seafood cuisine from renowned master chefs in the region.
Rather than a single cooking system, the game incorporates numerous cooking minigames that simulate Bancho’s training under different culinary mentors. This approach allows the game to showcase the diverse cooking techniques and regional specialties he encounters during his travels. Studio head Jaeho Hwang frames the experience as tracing Bancho’s path to becoming the legendary seafood expert featured in Dave the Diver, providing a character-driven prequel that explores his origins as a cook.
