I’m sad, I’m angry, I’m interested: Destiny’s final cutscenes are a painful end to a new saga cut short

Destiny 2’s final update, Monuments of Triumph, has arrived as the conclusion to over a decade of live-service content. The update marks a significant milestone for Bungie’s shooter, potentially representing the end of Destiny as an active franchise with ongoing support.

The Monuments of Triumph update brings narrative closure to the long-running Light and Darkness saga, which concluded with The Final Shape expansion. Bungie has packed the update with as much conclusion as possible while simultaneously launching a new saga called Fate, beginning with The Edge of Fate. This narrative arc centers on mysterious god-like entities affiliated with planets in the Sol system, revealed to have been manipulating events throughout Destiny’s entire story by controlling time and orchestrating key moments in the game’s lore.

The final update also marks the end of This Week In Destiny, a weekly community recap feature that has been a staple for over a decade, further emphasizing the close of an era for the game and its dedicated playerbase.
