Frontier are making a new Planet strategy management game that features neither Zoos nor Coasters
Frontier Developments, the studio behind Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster, has announced a new entry in the Planet game franchise. Unlike its predecessors, this untitled project moves away from zoo and amusement park management themes entirely, instead featuring what the developer describes as a “completely new setting.”
In a Discord post, Richard Stephenson, Frontier’s head of player engagement, revealed the studio is “starting work on a brand-new Planet Game franchise.” While the specific setting remains undisclosed, Stephenson emphasized that the new game will maintain the core appeal of the Planet series: creativity, management, and meaningful simulation. The project will continue Frontier’s tradition of strategy management games but with fresh thematic territory.
The announcement indicates the game is still in early development, with Frontier estimating a launch window of one to two years away. No gameplay details, specific platform targets, or more precise release date have been revealed yet.
This expansion of the Planet franchise represents a departure from the studio’s current portfolio of licensed management sims. Rather than iterating further on established themes of zoos and coasters, Frontier is leveraging the Planet brand to explore new management simulation concepts.
