Guide: Best Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 Football Games
Nintendo Life has updated its guide to the best football games available on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, coinciding with a major international football tournament. The updated list reflects the expanded game library now available on the next-generation Switch 2 console, alongside continued support for the original Switch platform.
The guide highlights a notable gap in Switch’s football game offerings: while the platform receives numerous smaller football titles, it lacks access to major licensed franchises—referred to as “Premier” games in the article. This presents a curious contrast to football’s status as the world’s most popular sport, with the game attracting players from the professional level down to children playing casually on playgrounds.
The timing of this update is strategic, as many of the featured games are currently on sale, making it an ideal moment for Switch owners interested in football gaming. The refreshed guide aims to help Nintendo fans navigate the often-confusing landscape of football game availability on the platform, where the selection is broad but lacks the blockbuster titles that dominate other gaming systems.
This update reflects broader trends in Nintendo’s platform positioning: while the Switch and Switch 2 receive strong third-party support for indie and mid-tier games, they continue to miss out on major sports franchises that prioritize other platforms for development and marketing efforts.
