Preview: Onimusha: Way of the Sword Offers a Rock-Solid 30fps Mode and a Great High Frame-Rate Experience Too

Capcom is reviving the long-dormant Onimusha franchise with Way of the Sword, launching September 29th across multiple platforms. The action game, developed using Capcom’s RE Engine, casts players as legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi navigating demon-infested temples with visceral combat mechanics.

The demo showcased impressive technical features including stellar facial capture technology, detailed object destruction, realistic cloth physics, and decapitation effects that highlight the game’s cinematic presentation. The game offers flexible performance options with both a rock-solid 30fps mode and a high frame-rate alternative for players to choose based on their preferences.

However, the current build has some graphical limitations. While PC and PS5 Pro versions support ray-traced reflections, the game currently lacks more advanced ray-traced features such as global illumination. These technical trade-offs suggest Capcom is balancing visual ambition with performance stability across the various platforms, including standard PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions alongside the enhanced iterations.
