The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum Adds Anya Taylor-Joy to Its Cast

Anya Taylor-Joy, known for her roles in Furiosa and The Queen’s Gambit, has joined the cast of the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Warner Bros. announced. Taylor-Joy will play Seren, a newly created character for the film described as “a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm” and “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.”

Lee Pace reprises his role as King Thranduil from The Hobbit trilogy. Director Andy Serkis, who famously portrayed Gollum in Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy, will helm the upcoming film. The movie draws inspiration from a brief passage in The Fellowship of the Ring depicting Aragorn’s pursuit of Gollum and his seven-week journey to deliver the ring-obsessed creature to Thranduil as a prisoner.

As an original character created specifically for the film rather than adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s source material, Seren’s exact role in the story remains to be fully revealed. Taylor-Joy joins an already established ensemble cast that includes both new actors and returning Middle-earth veterans.
