Ubisoft Bids Farewell to Assassin’s Creed Shadows With Final Story Update
Ubisoft has released details for Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ final content update, titled “Black Tides,” arriving June 16, 2026. The update marks the conclusion of post-launch support for the game following a year of dwindling updates and a single major expansion.
The update includes a substantial story conclusion for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke as they face elite Templars known as the Black Cross, who have sailed to Japan to hunt them. This narrative content addresses lingering story threads, particularly for Yasuke’s arc following the previous Naoe-focused Claws of Awaji expansion.
Beyond the story, Ubisoft is introducing “Domains,” a new endgame feature comprising five combat-focused arenas with ten difficulty levels each. These activities are designed to challenge hardcore players’ skills and character builds to their limits. The update also includes cosmetic crossover content with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, allowing players to equip Edward Kenway’s iconic outfit. Additionally, there is a teased cameo appearance from Kassandra, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
The update brings general bug fixes and performance improvements across platforms. On Nintendo Switch 2, the update is notably 9.5GB in size, though certain crossover content will not be available in that version due to platform-specific restrictions.
This final update represents Ubisoft’s formal conclusion of live-service support for Shadows, aligning with the company’s previous announcement that it was winding down development on the game.
