Capcom Pulls Dragon’s Dogma 2 Microtransactions Ahead of Dark Arisen Expansion Release

Capcom is removing Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Deluxe Edition and numerous microtransactions from digital storefronts on June 24-25, 2026, ahead of the Dark Arisen expansion release scheduled for later in 2026. Items being delisted include the premium Rift Crystals currency and convenience items such as Portcrystals, Wakestones, and Gaol Keys. The base game will receive a permanent discount alongside these removals.

The decision addresses longstanding player criticism from the game’s 2024 launch, when Capcom faced backlash for monetizing items that were readily obtainable through normal gameplay. The removed items were largely cosmetic or convenience-focused rather than pay-to-win mechanics, making their premium pricing a questionable design choice given their in-game availability.

Capcom attributed the removal to “development of additional content and various adjustments for the upcoming title update,” suggesting the company plans to integrate previously paid items into core gameplay with the Dark Arisen expansion and accompanying patches. Recent updates have already begun this transition, introducing fast travel features that address friction points the original microtransactions targeted.

While the decision represents a strategic shift for the franchise, the timing—nearly two years after launch—underscores how long it took for Capcom to respond to player feedback. The removal effectively positions the upcoming expansion as a fresh start, removing controversial monetization barriers before introducing new content.
