DC Studios Co-CEO Says Gorilla Grodd / Jimmy Olsen HBO TV Show Starts Shooting This Year
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran announced that the upcoming HBO television series focusing on Gorilla Grodd and Daily Planet photojournalist Jimmy Olsen will begin filming later in 2026. The show, created by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda—the creators behind the mockumentary parody series American Vandal—represents another addition to the DC Universe’s expanding television slate.
The project marks a continuation of DC Studios’ diverse television strategy under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Jimmy Olsen, portrayed by Skyler Gisondo in 2025’s Superman, will serve as the protagonist of the series, while Gorilla Grodd, a longtime adversary of The Flash, features prominently. The untitled series is one of several projects in development as part of the rebooted DC Universe.
Safran’s announcement came while promoting the upcoming Supergirl film and provided insights into the broader DCU roadmap. The studio is working on multiple projects across both film and television, including the Lanterns HBO series, Clayface (scheduled for fall release), Man of Tomorrow, Batman Part 2, and The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce Batman into the rebooted universe. A Justice League film is also in long-term plans to serve as a unifying project.
The involvement of American Vandal creators suggests the show may employ a comedic or satirical tone, distinguishing it from other DC television projects like the more serious Lanterns series and the action-oriented Creature Commandos.
