Lord of the Rings Fans React to Anya Taylor-Joy’s Casting in The Hunt for Gollum

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast in Andy Serkis’ upcoming Lord of the Rings spinoff film The Hunt for Gollum. She will play Seren, a newly created character described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil,” a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm. The character does not appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings and was created specifically for the film.

The casting joins other recently announced additions to the project, including Ian McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf, Jamie Dornan as a new version of Aragorn, and Lee Pace returning as King Thranduil from Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy.

Fan reactions have noted similarities between Seren and Tauriel, a character played by Evangeline Lilly in the Hobbit films who served as another elven aide to Thranduil. Tauriel was one of the Hobbit trilogy’s most controversial creative decisions, being an original character rather than based on Tolkien’s work. The comparison has sparked discussion among fans about the film’s approach to adapting and expanding Tolkien’s Middle-earth lore.
