Naoki Hamaguchi explains why Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has that subtitle even if the game’s central theme is “Resolve”
Square Enix has officially announced that the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will be titled Revelation. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed the title at Summer Game Fest this month, subsequently explaining to Game Informer that while the game’s central theme is “Resolve,” the subtitle “Revelation” remains the official choice. According to Hamaguchi, the thematic coincidence between the game’s central theme and its subtitle—both beginning with the letter R—is merely a coincidence rather than intentional design. The announcement resolves speculation among fans that had persisted since the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth about what the final chapter of the remake trilogy would be called. Community members had widely speculated the title might be “Reunion,” drawing a parallel to the Crisis Core spin-off’s similar subtitle, but Square Enix ultimately selected “Revelation” for the conclusive part of the reimagined series.
