I’ve been waiting 20 years for a worthy sequel to my favourite life sim, but THQ Nordic has other ideas

The Guild 2 remains a cult classic among life simulation enthusiasts, despite its limited mainstream success outside central Europe. This ambitious hybrid of management sim, RPG, and life sim allows players to inhabit individual characters within a medieval society—whether climbing ranks as a noble, operating a tavern, or simply making an honest living as a gravedigger. The game’s rough-around-the-edges charm, comparable to the Stalker series in its balance between ambitious design and technical roughness, has earned it a devoted following during its two-decade existence.

With no worthy successor emerging in the intervening years, fans have grown hopeful about potential new developments for the franchise. However, THQ Nordic’s involvement appears to be heading in a direction that diverges from what legacy fans have been anticipating. The publisher’s plans for The Guild 2 remain unclear, but the apparent disconnect between fan expectations and THQ Nordic’s vision suggests the franchise may be taking an unexpected turn rather than receiving the traditional sequel many have been awaiting.
