Hellraiser: Revival Continues To Be A Grotesque Survival Horror I Can’t Wait For

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is shaping up to be a standout entry in the horror game genre. The upcoming first-person survival horror game, developed by Saber Interactive, draws heavily from the Hellraiser franchise’s signature aesthetic of leather, latex, blood, and sexuality while delivering gameplay reminiscent of classics like Resident Evil and BioShock.

At recent gaming events including Gamescom 2025 and Summer Game Fest, preview builds revealed a game that leans into sexually provocative horror. Players manage resources and ammo carefully while navigating puzzles and sneaking past leather-clad enemies of the Scarlet Church. Familiar survival horror mechanics are present: distinctive keys that unlock elaborate doors, lateral-thinking puzzles, crafting systems, and measured first-person combat that punishes careless engagements.

What’s striking reviewers is the game’s explicit content and tone. Event organizers even provided barf bags for preview attendees. The game received an M-rating, which surprised even its developers—many expected a stronger rating given its frank approach to sexuality and gore. Despite its provocative nature, critics are genuinely enthusiastic, with some calling it potentially the first truly good Hellraiser game adaptation after decades of mediocre films (save for the 1987 original and 2022 reboot).

The game appears to succeed where the Hellraiser film franchise has largely struggled, translating the source material’s darker, more ambitious elements into an interactive experience. With its unapologetic blend of horror, sexuality, and challenging gameplay, Hellraiser: Revival is generating substantial anticipation as one of the year’s most intriguing horror releases.
