Saros Developer Housemarque Wants to Have the Same Growth as FromSoftware

Housemarque, the developer behind Saros, has expressed ambitions to achieve similar long-term growth and success as FromSoftware, the studio renowned for creating the highly successful Elden Ring. In an interview with The Game Business, Housemarque acknowledged that Saros has not achieved the same commercial success at launch as other first-party PlayStation titles. However, the studio believes its games develop and cultivate their audience over extended periods rather than achieving peak popularity immediately upon release.

Housemarque recognizes that it operates within a specific niche market, but points to FromSoftware’s trajectory as evidence that this approach can lead to sustained success. FromSoftware, founded in 1986, initially focused on business software before entering the gaming industry. The studio released its first action RPG, King’s Field, in 1994 on the original PlayStation, eventually becoming one of the most influential and commercially successful studios in the industry.

The comparison highlights a strategic shift in how Housemarque views its role as a PlayStation first-party studio, focusing on building lasting player communities rather than pursuing immediate commercial peaks at launch.
