Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 with Snapdragon X2 chips, featuring better performance and battery life, and higher price tags to match

Microsoft has announced refreshed versions of its Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12, now featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 chips alongside improved performance and battery life. The company previously unveiled Intel Core Ultra series 3 variants of these devices exclusively for business customers at premium pricing. Today’s announcement introduces consumer-oriented models powered by the new Snapdragon processors, positioned as more affordable alternatives to their Intel-based predecessors.

While the Snapdragon X2 variants offer more accessible pricing compared to the Intel models, they remain substantially more expensive than earlier Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 generations, with price increases of $500 to $600. Microsoft also offers “for Business” versions of both devices, which feature several enterprise-specific differences and command higher price points justified by business-focused features and support infrastructure.

The new Surface devices with Snapdragon X2 processors represent Microsoft’s strategy to offer ARM-based alternatives in its premium laptop and tablet lineups, capitalizing on improved mobile processor performance and extended battery life capabilities that increasingly compete with traditional x86 processors.
