Another Sony Security Concern: PS5 Games People Don’t Own Are Appearing on Their Profiles
PS5 users have discovered unauthorized games appearing on their profiles without having purchased, downloaded, or played them. In documented cases, titles like “Sex Store Simulator” have shown up in users’ recently played lists despite never being legitimately acquired. Notably, some of these phantom games aren’t even available for purchase through the PlayStation Store, making legitimate ownership impossible.
This incident follows a previous PlayStation Network security scare where social engineering tactics were used to manipulate Sony customer service representatives into granting unauthorized account access. While Sony has been working to tighten security protocols, this latest issue suggests problems persist.
In response, Sony has cleared the ‘Recently Played’ section from PS5 user profiles across the board, apparently while investigating the root cause. The company has characterized the incident as a technical glitch rather than a confirmed security breach, noting there is no evidence of actual account hacking at this time.
However, the swift removal of data and Sony’s caution suggest the situation is being treated more seriously than public statements indicate. The exact cause remains unclear—whether stemming from a display error, data corruption, or a deeper vulnerability has yet to be determined. Given Sony’s history of security incidents, users remain understandably concerned about account integrity and data protection on PlayStation Network.
