More than a thousand games in Steam Next Fest feature a generative AI disclosure of some kind
Steam Next Fest, an event showcasing demos for upcoming games on Valve’s Steam platform, has highlighted the prevalence of generative AI in game development. According to SteamDB, a database tracking Steam statistics, approximately 1,704 of the 8,700 games participating in the current Steam Next Fest event feature generative AI disclosures—representing roughly 20 percent of all participating titles.
Steam has established a requirement for developers to declare their use of generative AI during the development process. This disclosure policy ensures transparency about which games have incorporated AI-generated content, whether in art, audio, writing, or other creative elements.
The significant number of games with AI disclosures reflects the growing adoption of generative AI tools throughout the gaming industry. This trend demonstrates both the increasing accessibility of AI technologies to game developers and the ongoing integration of these tools into game development pipelines.
Steam’s mandatory disclosure approach represents an effort to keep players informed about the development methods used in the games they purchase. By requiring developers to tag their games with generative AI information, the platform enables consumer awareness and informed decision-making regarding game purchases.
