In a week of Xbox leadership changes, longtime Treyarch boss Mark Gordon is retiring from the Call of Duty studio to “focus on his next chapter”

Mark Gordon, the studio head at Treyarch, has announced his retirement after 22 years with the Call of Duty developer. Gordon’s tenure spans nearly the entire history of Treyarch’s involvement with the franchise, beginning with Call of Duty 2: Big Red One on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, where he served as technology director. Over the following two decades, he contributed to multiple entries in the series, including Call of Duty 3, World at War, and the entire Black Ops series.

Gordon became Treyarch’s studio head in November 2016, initially sharing the responsibilities with Dan Bunting and Jason Blundell. His leadership helped establish Treyarch as a core architect of the Call of Duty franchise, evolving the studio from a support role to a lead development house.

Kevin Hendrickson and Yale Miller will assume the roles of co-studio heads, described as veterans of the franchise with decades of development and leadership experience. Gordon’s departure comes as part of a broader wave of leadership changes across Xbox during mid-June 2026.
