Black Myth: Wukong has “achieved results beyond our expectations”, says developer, as sales reportedly pass a colossal milestone

Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG developed by Game Science inspired by Chinese mythology, has exceeded commercial expectations following its 2024 release. The game achieved a historic milestone by recording the largest concurrent player peak of any single-player game in Steam history upon launch. It also dominated Chinese streaming platforms, becoming the most-viewed game on day one.

The title sold over 10 million copies within just four days of release, demonstrating unprecedented demand for the title. The game’s success was further validated through critical recognition when it received a nomination for Game of the Year at the 2024 Game Awards, competing alongside other major releases before ultimately losing to PlayStation’s Astro Bot.

Developer Game Science has commented that the game has “achieved results beyond our expectations,” highlighting the surprise success compared to pre-launch projections. The achievement is particularly notable as the game has reportedly sparked broader momentum in the gaming industry, suggesting its success may have influenced trends beyond its own commercial performance.
