KeSPA Fines Ruler ₩20m and Demands 40 Hours of Community Service
South Korean professional League of Legends player Park ‘Ruler’ Jae-hyuk has received multiple sanctions from the Korean e-Sports Association (KeSPA) following a ruling that he intentionally evaded taxes. The incidents, which involved his father, sparked significant public outcry in South Korea.
The KeSPA Sports Fairness Committee has imposed a fine of 20 million won (approximately $13,000 USD) on Ruler and mandated that he complete 40 hours of community service. The sanctions represent the formal disciplinary response to the tax avoidance charges.
Meanwhile, the LCK—Riot’s official Korean League of Legends league—completed its own investigation and concluded without additional punishments. Despite speculation that Ruler could face a professional ban, the league ultimately did not pursue further disciplinary action against the player beyond KeSPA’s rulings.
The case underscores growing concerns about player conduct and financial transparency in professional esports, particularly within South Korea’s competitive League of Legends scene.
